Neutrals Rule
Always. With my editing style, neutrals work best. It doesn't have to be boring! Mix it up by adding some floral or stripes, and accessories. Listen though, I'm not talking about all white. Mix creams, tans, khakis etc.
Get Retro with it
More of a retro/grunge kinda vibe going? Graphic tees, denim jackets, flare jeans, Converse shoes, and accessorize with a funky trucker hat or layered bracelets for women. Get funky with it. Keep in mind your location. This might not look best in the middle of a field. Instead opt for a more urban feel. I have a few of those locations available, or pick your own!
Keep it classic
If you aren't a fan of the boho or retro feel, keep it classic. Khakis. Light blues, neutrals, plaid, even pastels.
Jewel tones
Jewel tones work in any location, during any season. Think rich jewel tones, and always mix with a neutral or two. Deep greens, blues, maroons, oranges, mustard yellow. These colors are PERFECT for Fall sessions.
What To Avoid
Bright Colors
Bright and neon colors will cast onto skin and ruin skin tone. There's a reason you will never see ME wearing a bright top to sessions, it too, will cast onto my clients skin.
Character Clothing
This is a fine line. Graphic tees- cool. Character tees ( cartoons etc.) don't work. They just don't, unless you're doing a specialized session, and I'm just not your girl for that.
Logos
It's so hard to avoid them, especially when it comes to men's wear. Not only are logos distracting from the connection in the image, they just don't look good. I said it, and I'm not sorry.
Mixing too much
Don't go overboard. It's totally okay to have some florals and mix it with a small stripe, but slowwww down. That is all ya need. Too many patterns are distracting.
This & That
Remember Footwear
So you've planned the perfect outfits. And then your kid or husband decides they want to wear tennis shoes. Put your foot down. Trust me. It's 1 hour, they can wear nice shoes. P.S. Converse chucks don't count. They are always cool.
One Color Family
This is wear the color wheel comes in handy. When choosing colors for your session, stick with the same color family. All pastels, all jewel tones etc. Don't mix and match.
Nail/Toe Polish
Details are my jam, this includes up close shots of hands, and in the summer, children's feet. If you're bothered by chippy polish, be sure nails are bare or a neutral color.
